Getting to Val Gardena

There are several transportation options to get to Val Gardena, depending on where you begin your trip. By plane, the closest major airports to Val Gardena are Innsbruck Airport (INN) in Austria and Bolzano Airport (BZO) in Italy. From the airport, there are many different public transportation options to get to Val Gardena.

Once you’ve arrived, take advantage of the local transportation that Val Gardena has curated for the convenience of locals and visitors alike. Ski resorts are linked by mountain cable cars that allow visitors to hop from slope to slope with ease. While you’re out exploring the local sites, pick up a Val Gardena Mobil Card which gives you access to the majority of public transport in the valley. Save yourself from the stress of driving in winter conditions and participate in more sustainable travel in the mountains!

Spending time on the Slopes

Renowned for its world-class ski slopes and extensive network of pistes (groomed runs), the Val Gardena/Seiser Alm ski area is the perfect place to ski or snowboard while surrounded by breathtaking views. Whether you’re navigating the gentle slopes as a beginner or tackling challenging runs as an expert, the resort caters to all skill levels, making a day on the snow an awesome, family-friendly activity. 

If you’re looking for a unique skiing opportunity, consider taking a day to try the Sellaronda. This ski carousel circuit allows you to explore the Sella Massif, crossing through four passes and giving you the ability to follow the course either clockwise or counterclockwise. The whole circuit is 40 kilometers (roughly 24 miles), with 24 kilometers (14 miles) traveled by cable car. This stunning ski experience is open to even average skiers. Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time, and aim to start your journey by 10 a.m. at the latest.

Another incredible experience is skiing “La Longia”, the longest ski run in South Tyrol province. Known as “The Fairytale Run” to some, this diverse run stretches over 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), where you start above treeline, gradually descending through gullies, forests, and even past a frozen waterfall!
